WHEN WILL I SEE #poetry by jay

man burning a joker playing card
I ask myself to batch it all up
and let go
float the raft down the river
and watch it wash up later
downwind

stop pretending this doesn’t exist
and face the truth
when will I see that it was part of my
skin

all the wounds
all the lines
all the ugly spots—

I chose to ignore

I try, I do—

but, however I parse it out
I lose in the end
the meaning—

of why
I tried again,
at all.

This poem composes and artistically expresses a fine and emotional question, yet I also find it answers the hopeless note of its finality with a more uplifting voice. Love it!

An honest introspection…to our workings, our reasons and everything else that goes on inside, many times hidden even from us…A bit enigmatic, but that’s a tasty spice.. I enjoyed this Jay.

This is a great piece, Jay. Completely relatable, at least with the interpretation I’ve read into it.
