I’m pondering recollections of my fragmented mind. The swirling images are like butterflies in a net, popping and fluttering. A puzzle—pieces of memory scattered/shattered. The bits flung about. What is this fractured memory?

FRACTURED
The clouds collided and fractured the sky,
exposing a rift in the realm.
Do we cower and clamor for cover? As the world
is deciding what it will become—
under ground/ above
a gestation
an evolution
a cocoon
hanging on.

From Oil Painting to Digital: My Art Transformation Using Krita

Cocoon #2 Oil Painting on Canvas
©Jay Mora-ShihadehWork in Progress/ Side by side compare
I’ve been busy learning Krita, an open-source free platform. Created by artists for artists, this powerful, professional-grade software supports layers, advanced brush engines, and color management (CMYK/RGB).
Here I’m strictly using the clone tool to paint and transform my original oil painting into a new artistic-Tradigital-style for my portfolio. Don’t know yet where it may end up, but that’s the same process as traditional painting. So far I’m thoroughly enjoying the expansion and creativity it affords me.

Blog Redesign for 2021
I’ve given my blog a design refresh for 2021. I went for a more calming and soothing color palette and image, since we’ve been through so much trauma and stress this past year (ad nauseum). I’ve also selected and updated my fonts. I chose a more timeless selection on my display font and aimed to balance it with a more rounded, easy on the eyes, readable font for the longer verse.
Anyhow, I hope you all like it. 🙋🏽♂️

Solitude
I write because
the wind blows
I paint where
the heart goes
and in between
these two tangled
lovers,
my solitude
composed.

Poetry Reflections 2020 #2
In the spirit of my poet friend, Robert Okaji, at O at the Edges , I am going to repost 1 of my most visited poems from 2020 everyday this week leading up to the New Year. After all, this is the time of year we spend regenerating, hibernating and reflecting; and man o’ man, did we go through a lot this past year!
That Day
When the light of day sits
pensive and dull
you begin to mourn the flowers
that yesterday sang
brilliant hues of red
and violet
and the spray of ocean waters
burned salt into your eyes
and you cried
not because you mourned the day
but because the sky was seamless blue
and the day held you suspended
in warm light
high and giddy from the smell
of the sun
you melt into the air
and fly away with the seagulls.

Artistic Face Masks
Select curation of my Art Designs on masks
I had a tough time initially with this pandemic as far as masks and their appearance. Should they really be a fashion piece? Was I comfortable with a medical mask that is meant to protect us, and others, from a potentially deadly virus becoming an accessory item?
No, I wasn’t.
I wanted it to be a statement, that this is serious business (and it is) and we shouldn’t get comfortable with Covid-19; and EVERYONE should take it seriously and remember to be very careful when we are out in public, or visiting loved ones. Medical masks it was!
Well… here we are right? 5-6 months into this thing and it looks like it is here to stay for the unforeseen future. Dammit :( It really was my wife who insisted, that if she was going to have to wear a mask for a long time, she wanted it to look good. She wanted the mask to fit into her work attire and daily fashion decisions; or at least be somewhat fashionable. Traditional medical style masks, or even the black fabric masks weren’t going to cut it for her. Even though black is a “thing” for her, being a transplanted New Yorker, living in Sarasota, Florida.
So, I heard her and thought she had a good point. I decided to give it a go and select some ArtDesigns from my Art Shop to display on face masks. I hope you like the selection; and if you see another piece of artwork in my shop you would like to have on a mask, hit me up and I’ll create a special one just for you!

Creating collages from my original art
New Collage Work created in Figma
I’ve been making several iterations of this collage in the Figma platform, using my original oil pastel “Universal Day and NIght”

I love juxtaposing my original artwork with the clean lines and filter tools in Figma. It creates awesome variations and depth with great layering results. I am a colorist and abstract artist at heart, and have always painted fast and furious so this technique is perfect for me. I would love to hear your feedback on this piece.

Burrow in Pennsylvania Countryside
I painted this watercolor while sitting in my studio one day, “back in the day” living in Philadelphia, Pa. I loved the bike rides I would take out into the countryside and surrounding burbs of Philly, the lush green landscape provided a cocoon-like escape out of my busy city existence during this time in my life.
This painting is now available on canvas, as a print in my Artshop .

#DailyUI Design Challenge Day 010
Doing the #DailyUI Design Challenge to make myself a better designer and to learn Figma is proving a good exercise in consistency and committment.
I am learning and improving in a short time, in my knowledge and understanding of UI Design, and Design in general. It is really a matter of learning these new tools, such as the Figma platform and digital tools, instead of paint brushes and pencils.
Of course I am still a beginner with so much to learn. Taking some online courses and tutorials helps too. But, doing 100 days of design challenges is an excellent practice tool.
In this challenge I designed a Social share page for a music App. I designed it specifically for the iPhone 8.
Hope you like it!
Feedback is desired, so please hit me up with your comments!
