you know…
it seems Time
is a hammer
pounding away
at our humanity,
certainly Time
must prove
its worth in blows
and is merciless
in its demeanor.

Hell yeah it’s home made Khubz today! I love this hot outta the oven with olive dip. Today I made it with just some cumin and salt and fruity olive oil.
Of course after a workout I devoured one whole loaf as my post work out treat! Oh well the dreamy steamy pull of piping hot dough was calling me 🤷🏽♂️😋
Thank fully they aren’t SUPER large, just medium loaves.

I squander
this day
it feels so fragile
yet, I choose to
mingle among the silence
and squander the brillance
why? I must feel
it is the only one
promised.

Reblog of poetry I wrote many years ago about Palestine, part of my great heritage #Poet #Palestine #Poetry

And so it goes, and it came like this–
you may like it,
or you may not…
The crowd stops and gathers about
He stands tall and projects
Do not forget from whence you came!
It may be a long away flicker- but it burns like the embers
in the fires of life!
It means, that we will not lay down and die.
” For what greatness does this betray to lie down and die? “
The greatness of our land
the beauty and justness in our being!
The great land we know in Palestine.
‘Oh the tales he weaves
the shoulders he stands on
whirling dervishly
he sings, he shouts…
Victory is on our horizon.
Palestine shines, like the ripeness of the sun on…

Beholden by a breath so sweet
I received
the daylight silent
still, mine to greet
I received
a love, a light from
beside my heart
deep under
the brush and firmament
I received
you, forever
etched into my skin
him small and wimpering
I received
this day with a breath
so sweet,
I received
my love.

Cotton mouthed and shirked
by the night
your light always eludes me
why is it the moon glows
upon your hips like
heathen red? and
the bled of night
escapes through
the black veil
of love.

Of sin
Of abhorrence
Of bent
and,
Of broken
In the dry bough
wooden and drifting,
Pretenses
and pickled mouth
Besieged by pines
and corked by the sea.
The needling
of the wind howls
in this
Barren
Cavern
Brain
Of a man, forlorned
A bastion
Sinful and hideous
Holed and cored
You’re gutted
now, a mullet
Flayed
Empty
Pin spine
Flung
into
the Roiling Waves.
The Wretch
fed to the vengeful
Salted Sea.

This is day 2 of sharing a memory-
I was rifling thru some old writings and junk and I came across a little black book with some poetry and sketches that I keep. In it I found some poetry that was from 2005 that my son Adrian (who was 9 at the time) wrote. I remember, we would sometimes play this poetry word game. And, at the time, he was into writing these fun little fiction books and on occasion some poetry.
Here’s the second one-
There in the forests
inscribed with wax
in trees
are comforting
words in rainbows within
souls.

Inscribed in love.

overtaken in the rain
with nowhere to go
i try to release the uneasy pain
restrain, pulling back in vain
it lingers, follows me
throughout my entire day
set free!
my drenched sorrow
today
i try to release the uneasy pain
reaching high for someone
something, somewhere
the weight bearing down
buckling knees
refusing to fall
under/down
catching my small
burdened frame
the sights of tomorrow
seem
so far away
take this day and
put it in its place
i try to release the uneasy pain
“out of sight, out of mind”
sounds nice-
you think?
forget that there’s sugar
and spice
shove it to someone
who care’s
acting a frozen smile
and all that’s nice
i try to release the uneasy pain
somewhere, somehow
the lump in my throat
is growing by the hour
black, blue, gray
all day
separate the facts
from fiction
completing
my uncontrollable affliction
lay me head
down to rest
in hopes for
my soul to contest
i try to release the uneasy pain
missing, hoping
for a better day
take it!
Instead-
shine the moonlight
inside my head
jumpstart my low
and sagging spirit
to see the brightness
around, behind
the sweetness
and kisses
I try to release the uneasy pain
but, i’m overtaken by sorrow
in the rain.

Love creates
Shapes the child
In haste
He grows
Another beautiful
Son
Unspoken
Forgotten
The invisible father
Continues to love
Host another
Slighted family
Crying out
In pain
Forgotten
Validation
Begging insane
Cloaked
Revoked
His child’s dreams
Stunted
With shame
The invisible father
Screams
Nothing claims
His voice
To carry
Hopes
Desire
To love
Families
Only regain
His efforts are clear
This child’s fears
Will never
Come near
The disrespect
You’ve shown him
Year after year
Open your eyes
The child he loves
Will not
Go away
The invisible father
Is here to stay.

In the same time period of my memory of my sweet Chocolate Lab, I wrote this poem when I lived in St. Petersburg Florida and the oil pastel was inspired by the beach there.

The Artist From The Inside Out
When the light of day sits
pensive and dull
you begin to mourn the flowers
that yesterday sang
brilliant hues of red
and violet
and the spray of ocean waters
burned salt into your eyes
and you cried
not because you mourned the day
but because the sky was seamless blue
and the day held you suspended
in warm light
high and giddy from the smell
of the sun
you melt into the air
and fly away with the seagulls.

Thought I would share with you this old post…I miss this guy so much, my beautiful chocolate lab has been in my thoughts so much lately, even though we lost him back in June 2017. sigh… The Oil Pastels were actually inspired by him many years prior to his passing. He lived to be almost 14 just shy of his 14th birthday. I got him from a very nice Mennonite family who lived on a farm in the Lancaster PA., area when he was just 10 weeks old. Best dog ever!

Now that you saw from my post about the farmer’s market, that I have the BEST Dog On THE Planet!
Khalil!
and one more snoozy pic! (note the faraway look in his eyes)
Being the big dog lover that I am, I decided to create two pastel pieces in honor of my boy. Enjoy!

I saw you stand up
You are a mountain
You are an eagle
You are this pen
I saw in your eyes
the world, they spoke to me
of “forever”
the time that passes
through one’s pupils
and into another
I saw the vastness of
the black universe spill
into someone’s coffee cup
and they drank, and You
You stood there, a rock
unmoved. It was as powerful
as this moment
UnShook.

I like mornings spent in
quiet intent, pondering.
Alas, I have found reasonable
sanity here
in an enjoyable moment.
Reason on reason,
I forget,
all to realize I was given
a gift, not before realized
but nevertheless,
I sit,
in a most enjoyable
state,
quite content.
Days on days,
morning upon morning,
night time shared
enjoying, you
and him.

Four!
Four?!
It’s ten after
and then some more…
but who’s counting or paying attention?
I get thrown back, at the escape created daily
Forgetting the task of this day
It matters not by me, or you, or them, or him!
We are trapped here, in this great universal tragedy
A mythical- like tragical story
Epic in fact
We ponder, pontificate and postulate.
This insanity we hail from, we reign from
on down the line from, regurgitate from
How did we birth a nation, a planet of conceptional
like aliens? Unlike the birth of an unwanted
mistake, a defect we mourn after.
How in the hell did it happen?
Today is no exception
as is yesterday, tomorrow
or future takes.
Why do we tolerate the “facts”, the mistakes?
Oh, I don’t know you say, go bother your mother, father, brother
Your mundane questions you inherited, it’s all fake.
Listen! This is a big one.
We got here through time travel and history
Lore led us astray
and we now beg for Mercy upon Mercy for those we preyed and
we actually divide and lay, a morbid cell, in a cell, in a retractable hell
At least now we pray and pray for that finality that un-does the messness
the infinite-ness-ness, the infinity knot, tightly wound-ness-ness
Unashamed..unabashedly, unfounded-ness-ness.
Go to hell please and find our day…
I beg of you!
…of this-this-this.

And when the day comes
We find ourselves aghast
In it
Lost
Freaked out
By it
And they come anyhow
To pick through the
Rubbish
The bones
And find a ring
A finger
Dislodged
And when the light emerges
From the rubble of
Gray battles strewn
Through the black holes
In our galaxy
We prevail and
Rebuild
Robust
It’s like this
Without thought
We go on
As they fiddle with
The locks and souls
Lost
And they rebuild
Doors
Windows
Arches
And the Lintels and posts
Teeter precisely
Where they stood
Unbothered
A wreck of wrecks
Too many to count
And they come.
