I preached,

when I was 8
years old,

My mom was an orphan, from a broken up, Irish-American-mixed family. Her mother was an alcoholic and prescription drug abuser. Her father disappeared. Never seen again. Felt for years. Real/ not real. Who knows. She lived in a scrappy trailer park and begged for food.

The breath of winter
Folds into my lungs
Biting and frigid
A last shot of bourbon
Burns and ignites the air
Dim lit moon shine
Glows fluorescent bright
A crack of ice and
Swallowed shards
Of memory
Broken in two
one-
Escapes into the
Bed of hibernation,
The other-
Swirls in the snow
And dry drifts
Blow in, through
A breath
A recall
A dream,
Forming a wintry
Clot of white silence
A whistling cave
Inside my heart
I Feel release and ease
Of what’s to come
A waxing crescent
Bulging the night
I reminisce of a spring
Full sprung and upright
In verdant delight.

as i lay here
caged in silence
i feel your
pulse in my ear
a shooting
takes place
on the feed
as per standard
fare
i proceed to
stare
into a memory
long plastered
adhered, to
my inner ear
this injustice
thrust by
a belief held
dear
i feel your breath
spit my way
all control spun
away
i stood hostage
by you and him
and injustice
was laid
out, for clear
display,
the fear you
had on that
bitter day.
