Glass eyed and 8

profile of a man in shadow

I preached,

when I was 8

years old

I felt I was

an old sage,

wordly wise

and forward

praise.

I watched the ants

march like obedient

soldiers,

into their ant hills.

My jaw ajar and

my mind gone,

lost

in space,

a dreamy state.

The sidewalk

became

another planet

and I,

glass-eyed

and 8,

pondered deeply

about black ants

and their militarized

state.

What

Where

Why,

did they

serve?

And, for who’s

purpose?

I proclaim.
