I Use To Have These Friends

Grayscale Photo of Man Sitting

I use to have this friend

he documented his dreams

Spoke

whispered them at night

Attempting to capture

his soul

raw and revealing

I miss him

All these people

make up what’s real

Contend

Dreams

Until the end

I use to have this friend

she giggled all the time

At the drop of a pin

she would spin

laughing

until her energy

wore thin

I miss her

All these people

make up what’s real

Playful

robust

zeal

I use to have these friends

they would feed me

Fill my belly up with bread

making me comfortable

inside their warm, clean bed

“Mi casa is su casa”

they would say

continue to play

painting all day

I miss them

All these people

make up what’s real

Warm

Friendly

Insistence

Completing my

existence

I used to have these friends
